My Journey and the Custom Role that Changed the Game

In the ever-evolving landscape of product management, there's a moment when you realize that the role you need doesn't yet exist. That's the point where my journey as a first-time product executive began—a journey fueled by a dash of audacity and a dose of innovation.

Picture this: I found myself in the heart of a startup, where chaos was the status quo, and agility was our lifeline. Like many startups, we were navigating uncharted territory, trying to build a product, and find our place in a fiercely competitive market. It was exhilarating, but it was also a bit like playing Whack-a-Mole.

The challenges kept popping up— we were constantly whacking one mole, only to have another one pop up elsewhere. It was a game of adaptation, resilience, and, above all, problem-solving.

And then it struck me. We didn't need to play this game indefinitely. We needed a strategist, a visionary, and a bridge-builder—a role that could anticipate the moles and address them before they surfaced. I believed I could be that bridge, that architect of order amidst the chaos.

So, I seized the opportunity created by organizational changes, and I pitched a custom-made role—one that emphasized my skills, experiences, and the unique perspective I could bring to the table. It was a daring move, but it was also a testament to the belief that, in the world of startups, you can shape your own path.

And guess what? It worked. I got the job!!

I fully expect this to be a thrilling, yet daunting voyage filled with uncharted waters, exhilarating discoveries, and inevitable challenges.

Welcome on board as I navigate my way through this unique adventure in the world of product success leadership.

So what's next, a 30-60-90 day plan. More on that in future posts.
